I would take out the plastic covers and check the multifuntion lever.  some fords use the mounting bolts for the lever as ground so maybe moving or tilting the weel knocked out a loose mounting bolt and u may have a bad ground

How old is the van?  I could see old wires in the steering collum breaking when you 'tilt' the wheel?  If it isn't old the same scenario, except the wires got 'pinched' when the wheel was tilted due to improper assembly at the plant.  I would take the collum cover off and just see what you can see.
