Congrats - the most satisfying jobs are the ones that you're told you
can't do and turn out to be a few bucks and a bit of effort!
A good way to start a weekend :)

Subject: [V8] Jack Master
Hey all, well my 5 ton big jack leaked out a year or so ago. I
bought it at a pawnshop 15yrs or so ago for $89 apparently(still
written on there). I was told that the seals wouldn't be available,
and should just buy a new one. After getting discouraged by the $150-
$300 chinese jacks I was looking at, thought I'd at least fill it
back up and see. I found a jack website(hyjacks.com), where he
mentioned that they used to use Mobil DTE 24 as the fluid....Hmmmmm.
After verifying that the DTE13M was just a smidge thicker, I filled
it up(after replacing the piston o-ring and a copper washer), and it
works better than ever, and no leak. Almost as satisfying as fixing
the car. The main pump seal(that was leaking profusely)...seems to
be fine. I just lifted the front of the truck(reason for needing a
big jack), and it worked flawlessly.....Happy Memorial
day....Sincerely Tom
