I too second this way of doing it (cutting the top off with a die grinder),
though I fully admit it is a "hack".
Having done that job both the "right" way and the "hack" method before - I
will shoot for the die grinder ( I used a Dremel) method with two part
epoxy or pro weatherstrip sealant gluing the two half's back together any day
over the traditional removal.
If done via the hack method it will save about 6 hours, lots of swearing
and bloody knuckles, and can look just fine if you cut straight.
