Ach du liebe! Seems to me the fluid you've got in there is better than a jug of dusty who knows what on a shelf somewhere!!! I guess these cars are worth so little now that people don't really care about how they take care of them ...
If you've never changed fluid in an Audi trannny or diff, the FIRST thing to do is to remove the FILL port before doing anything else ... the fill plug is often difficult or impossible to remove, which is the wrong thing to learn after you've drained the oil. After the fill plug is out you remove the drains, one @ the drive flange & the other for the center diff. I usually take the car out for a few laps around the block to get the oil warmed up so it will drain faster.
After filling I do another couple laps to get oil back in the center diff and then check the level again.

I found a GL 4 spec synth oil. Walker brand? The local lube place had 2 jugs
sitting on the shelf collecting dust. The funny part was they couldn't tell
witch drain plugs to use.. so I decided to try someplace else.
Do you drop the exhaust to access the plugs? one is really close to a heat
shield.
