My old 10V (Bad Puppy) had a slow starting problem when cold. The list
suggested a one-way check valve at/in the fuel pump, or possibly leaking
injectors.

A bad check valve lets the pressurized fuel drain back to the tank, forcing
a long crank while the pump pressurizes the line on a cold start (or sitting
long enough to drain back). The leaking injector(s) means it drains from the
other end, but the same result.
