[V8] no hot start and no codes? Not a v8 at issue same diagnostic tree

00522 is the engine temp sender and it should 'also' indicate a short to ground or a short to positive. IME G62 don't give a no start problem, they make a cold start or idle/acceleration during warm-up problem. I'd spend a lot of time diagnosing the FPR. Disconnecting the manifold reference line should give you maximum pressure in the rail. Sound like if you pinch the return line, you get it to start. That's a clogged fuel filter, leaking fuel line, bad pump or bad FPR, none of which will generate a code (the result of these problems might present a rogue code)

Try starting it on starting fluid. If it runs, then dies, you have a fuel delivery problem (see above).

I think it would. I had a 97 A6qa and I remember a temp sensor code being thrown

on it.

Eric, when I had issues with my A6's i've posted on www.quattroworld.com and

got great suggestions/remedies to any issue I have had with those cars.

When I just recently had issues with my wife's 95 a6 they were similar to what u

described and it ended up being the FPR.

ecu temp sensor would throw a code would it not?.......it's got lots of fuel

pressure from the pump.

something is going wrong on the rail maybe

Those cars are OBD2, so if it was a temp sensor then it would throw a code.

I do agree that it's fuel related. I wanted to say fuel pump relay....but the OP

said it would start if he clamped off the supply line or if the purge valve is

disconnect.

 So I don't know…
