[V8] alternator rebuilding and idler pulleys

The alternator is like any other - and the rebuild is easy if you know how. It does not take much in the way of tools but if you have never done it, you are probably better off bringing it to a shop that does this sort of thing.
On the shock thing, I think it adds some tension so I would not leave it off my car.
And on the belt, the routing is hard to figure out so make a diagram first, but actually getting it on/off is a piece-o-cake. There are two tricks. Well one really, and that is to RTFM (read the manual). The tricks are:
1- use a wrench on the tensioner pivot bolt provided just for this purpose
2- use a locking pin to hold the tensioner at max retracted position while installing the belt. The pin is nothing more than a small bolt or drill bit - about 3/16" should do.
