Going to see if I can get #2 to pass smog . idle seemed a bit lumpy so I
tried pulling spark plug wires . two cylinders closes to the firewall on
passenger's side didn't seem to make a difference when pulled. Pulled spark
plugs, forward plug looked brand new . I could hear the spark jumping the
gap when I pulled the wire, so it must be a plugged injector.

. still have the PT sitting in the garage, so I pulled a couple injectors
from there, then I pulled the ones from the car. Oddly enough the two sets
of injectors looked different! The ones in the car had a plastic tip where
the ones from the garage had a metal covered tip with the surface of the
injectors recessed perhaps as much as a centimeter. The two injectors had
different part numbers .

I'm pretty sure that the metal tipped injectors came from the VAG training
motor I got back when . which I expect to be an AT variant. I wonder if the
MT version cars had different injector parts than the AT models? I wish I
had TFA running on my current PCs so I can check for myself .

The new injectors smoothed the idle . now I need to decide if I'm going to
swap in the other set completely. I remember when I installed the engine
that I couldn't get it to fire until I swapped the rails from the original
engine. So . it looks like #2 had a V6 or V7 until today .

It also appears that I've got a leaking check valve in the fuel pump or a
leaking FP regulator . the car had only been sitting maybe 3 hours when I
pulled the fuel lines on the rail . there was no apparent residual pressure
when I cracked the supply line .
