[V8] Operating with timing belt cover off

I'm in the same boat Chris, Cheap.

That said, a timing belt is quite a cheap job to do. I do it and the water
pump, and check the lower roler. If it's still smooth, pull the seals out of
the bearing and add some grease. Will last for the life of the car.

I do run both of my daily drivers with no covers, the VW diesel because you
can't get the lower covers anymore. I've done this for most of the years
I've driver VW's Audi's, never had an issue. That said, as mentioned, there
is nothing needed to inspect, it's just time to do it.

I always ran my V8 with them on. Those alluminum covers sure look nice, and
the passenger side cover is necessary anyhow.

Btw, whenever I have to do something like this (that is, spend $$ on my car)
I just think about the alternative. Either a broken car, or a car payment.
No need to think very long on that one for me.

HTH,
Tony
