[V8] '93 Axles

That's right, I didn't disconnect control arm or stabilizer bar. My car
doesn't have UFO's, but I can't see how that would make any difference.
With the inner CV unbolted and by turning the steering to full lock (to the
opposite side of the car) I was able to get enough room to slide the outer
spline out and get the axle free of the car.

I am looking at this tonite - I have one busted CV boot. I am replacing the

front brake hoses as well, that is not going too well.

Your saying for your '93 you didn't have to split the control arm joint,
unbolt the stabilizer bar etc. like the manual states (for UFO)???

thanks Paul

I have just replaced both front outer CV boots on the 93. I remembered this
being a much worse job than it actually was. I was able to remove both
axles without unbolting anything else, the CV joints popped off the axles
with minimal drama, and a coffee can of gas served wonderfully to clean all
the old grease out of each joint, augmented with some brake cleaner. Some
compressed air to dry then, two tubes of new grease per joint, and voila.
Makes me want to kick myself for ever having paid someone to do this for me.

I am also in search of tie rod parts. I need just the rubber bushing on the
inner end of the tie rod where it bolts to the rack. I need this for two of
my cars. Just don't see buying a whole tie rod for a simple rubber bushing.

Good to know about the Audi 100 CVJ's.

Ed

I need the adjusting barrels that screw into the front outer tie rod ends
to adjust the alignment. I'm sure we all could use them on our antique V8s.
Any source for them or ones made of Stainless Steel? The entire tie rod With
inner and outer ends are $260 each, but is there any interchange part that
is separate?
I searched for front outer CV joints and took the search to Audi America.
Brad Hollister, also a collector (of MGs), called Germany. No source, but
Keith let me know the Audi 100 outer CV joints work perfectly. That saved
the day.
                                                              Thanks, Bob
