[V8] Catastrophe (well, sort of)

Wow ... I wonder where your car lived before it ended up north? ... or
perhaps it is cold not heat that has damaged it.
The odo reset function is a completely different mechanism, so it could very
well be the gears on the motor melting as they did before. It could also be
that the odo drive gears didn't seat properly after the reset ... it
wouldn't hurt to hit the zero button again.
Removing the dash pad and IC are not that difficult ... remove the speaker
grilles to access two screws, there is one in the middle of the defroster
vent. You need to take the trim off the steering column to get at one screw
and there are three behind the dash vents ... I never remember which of the
vents need to be removed.

Odometer failure! Again!
I took the V8 out to get fuel. After filling the tank, I zeroed out all the
computer outputs that can be zeroed as is my habit, and then reset the
odometer.
When I went out to drive the car yesterday, I backed it out of the garage
and when I got half way to town, I noticed that the odometer was not moving
and the trip meter was still set to zeros.
The motor that resets it is still working, but the numbers are frozen. I
suspect the worst: the little gears are gone and the speedo will have to be
removed so new ones can get installed. I do NOT want to return it to the
wrench for this, so I guess I may have to figure out how to take off the pad
and pull the cluster.which is a job that I am not keen about at all.never
been there or done that before is the wimpy reason.
Just after Steve rebuilt the speedo for me before, it froze once, only to
clear a few miles later. I am hoping that one of the little odo gears has
broken a tooth and it is jammed.and will clear itself.
Well, I can hope, can't I?
Roger
