[V8] Sputter, studder, putt putt...

Our V8 used to do this:

Outside temp < 30 F (-1C)
Cold start up
Runs on 4 cylinders(OK), 4 cylinders misfire = cat overheat etc.

As soon as the engine compartment warmed up it was fine

So what I did was pull of the connections around the coils??? (back of 
engine), cleaned HT, LT sides, sprayed the rubber and housings with LPS etc. 
there are two correct?? I forget...
anyway has not done it since. This was years ago.

I have no idea why.

Well i'm getting what's best described in the subject header. Car feels and 
sounds like she's not running on all 8 cylinders. Exhaust sounds different, 
while idling it's rather lumpy and while reving she spits and backfires a 
bit.
No codes so i'm obviously thinking ign related. I just changed spark plugs 
and wires (bought from a lister who said they were good). The wires supposed 
to OHM out at.....1k or was it 5k? I know the wires are on rite cause I 
pulled one at a time and replaced with the told to me good wires. I'll pull 
one wire at a time and replace with my originals to make sure I don't have a 
bad wire or two.
The caps look good, no cracking or carbon buildup on the cap points. Rotor 
tips were clean as well when I pulled the caps.

am I thinking correct to think it's ign related?
