[V8] Ball joint discussion...

There's really nothing that can be proven, to be honest, since, as stated,
and as we all realize, one cannnot assume anything anymore. Stock,
standard, OEM, from the factory doesn't really mean much as so many of these
have been modified in some way or another.

I recently replaced a control arm on my Avant. I ordered on from
AutohausAZ, but in the mean time I realized I had a front subframe sitting
in the garage that I recalled had one control arm still on it... It
happened to be the correct side... so I... measured the ball joint bolt
thickness. I lucked out big time because it was the correct diameter. So
before I received the new one, I had my car back on the road. It feels as
tight as it did before so I'm most likely not going to worry about going
back in to install the new one.

Anybody need a brand new right-front control arm? I'll even measure the
ball joint bolt thickness for you to make sure it's the right one for you.
I'll ship it to you for what I paid for it, shipped to me, or whatever
AutohausAZ is getting for them now, if that's less.

Ed

 Let me repeat this slowly:
Measure-the-ball-joints-before-you-attempt-to-install-the-wrong-ones. I'm
no v8 guru, and IME, the thought of making some sort of FAQ regarding ball
joints on v8's could prove dangerous. I'm not sure the urgency to 'prove'
anything, beyond one's ability to make a really basic mistake, that luckily,
didn't cost a life. I can't share this BTDT, because I don't claim to be a
guru, only claim to have seen a myriad of v8 applications that stress the
importance of using a set of calipers on ball joints. Months ago, and again
in this thread, I will stress the importance of KNOWING there are 18 and
19mm ball joints that will 'fit' v8 and '91 200 uprights. And I'll point
directly to a guy that didn't take the 20 seconds to understand the
difference.

What do you want to prove? That there aren't 18 and 19mm ball joints, that
can be installed incorrectly by mistake? You already proved that. Here's
hoping this forum learns something from such a basic mistake.

What's the ball joint on the 5ktq's and 200 10vtq's.......17mm? Then u say
there is a 18mm ball joint for UFO housings. Do u have anything to
support that statement Scott?
Then u say there are 19mm ball joints for //scars......is this correct?

Just trying to clear up some confusion I have. Cause the numbers that have
been

given to me for the UFO housings are the 19mm ball joints from the //scars.
