The bearings are the same - just the expensive part comes with the fan mounting flange. It does not wear out so unless you have damages yours somehow you don't need to replace it.

Well, I'm finally getting around to doing the timing belt on the Lago car that's been parked now for 3 years or so. I've been starting it off/on during that time, and was a joy to drive when I moved it to a friend's empty garage a few months ago, and am excited to get it back on the road. I'm getting the Blau kit, but wanted to replace the Oil pump bearing(called Intermediate Bearing 077115136A?), and the Fan bearing(called cooling fan shaft 077121211?). They were $99 and $410(ouch) at the dealer, and found them on www.genuineaudiparts.com for $71 and $295 respectively. I have in my notes(from someone), that the bearings are interchangeable(even though different part #), and would like to verify that so I could get 2 of the "affordable" $71 ones. Also checking to see if anyone has another source.

I've got the paper manual set and have read that, but if anyone's got a copy of the Knowledgebase article, would love to read that also in case there's a helpful hint that's not in the real manual. I've got the cam lockers, and may have access to the other VAG tools, I was planning on fabricating some of these to have, as the 5-speed will be needing a belt in a few years....Any input on all this would be greatly appreciated.....Sincerely, Tom
