[V8] A small quiz for the V8 inclined

There are no common links between the cruise and downshift functions.

There are two things that make a V8 downshift. #1 is based on throttle
demand vs speed and current selected gear which is sent as a signal to the
tranny ECU from the Engine ECU. #2 is the full throttle switch on the
throttle cable. This is why a V8 will make the aggressive two step downshift
regardless of what mode the tranny is in if you stomp the throttle. Based on
your description I'd guess your full throttle switch housing is broken which
requires replacement of the entire throttle cable assembly.

On the cruise side, the most common problem I've seen is simply a
selector assembly that's either worn out or dirty. Second most common is an
unplugged hose at the vacuum actuator under the left dizzy. Third would be a
broken plastic washer that attaches the actuator rod to the actuator.

What sensor input would you think might be used for both cruise control
function and transmission downshifts?

When I have the 93 V8 in Sport mode the transmission upshifts as expected,
but it won't make the more aggressive downshifts that I have experienced in
the 94 V8, like down to 2nd at 55-60 or down to 1st at 30 or so. The one
time it did downshift aggressively in Sport mode, I was also able to get
the
cruise control to work, hence the search for some common link to help
direct
my troubleshooting.

Thanks for any and all ideas!

Ed
