[V8] A8 trans problem

Lots of info on failing A8/S8 slushboxes on Quattroworld.com, Ed.  They DO
have occasional electronics issues, but mostly its internal parts failures
that require expen$ive repairs.

We upgraded from V8s to an S8 a couple years ago.

Is it largely the same situation as for the V8s?  My first thought is fluid
level, as I cured limp mode in my 92 parts car by draining the pan and
refilling with 4 quarts ATF.
 
Every once in a while, a short wheelbase A8 catches my eye and I think I can
start to see into the future.  I think they look especially wonderful in
Cashmere (dark grey metallic).
