[V8] Intermittent engine shut off

John,
By the sounds of it, it's the typical symptom of s failing engine speed
sensor. After many, many heat cycles, it often will exhibit the symptoms you
describe before failing completely. Might be a good time to replace the
engine crank sensor at the same time (they're exactly the same except one
end is colored black and the other sensor end is grey -- though if I recall
correctly, you don't have a choice of color anymore). They both mount
together on the same bracket with heat shield.
