Subject: [V8] Giving up...No it's alive.. Road trip
Hello All,
I was finally able to get the car on the road, with a paper temporary
operating permit. Kinda nerving(my word) driving with no plates or stickers
on the car.
Drove from Lake Tahoe to Calistoga to my fathers place. Mostly hwy, but I
take hwy 128 over by Lake Berryessa, from Winters to the Napa Valley, nice
windy road.
Running great after all new ignition components. Rotors, caps, plugs ,
wires. But still seems to have a miss. Avg 23 mph round trip. Not bad
considering that the last 60 miles are uphill over a 7382' summit. Temp
seemed a bit warm. Guage read mostly at 100c. A few times it
climbed up close to 200c. But would cool down. The p.o. put the green stuff
in there. Does that really make much diff?
Tried to smog in lower elevation, but no go. Running rich. You can smell it.
High hc's and low O2 output.
After the car cooled down in Calistoga, I checked the plugs. Almost all the
same. White area on plug a bit tan. Except for #4. Almost black. I think #4
cylinder is bad. Also, when coasting down Echo Summit to So.Tahoe(coming
home) I was following a school bus @35mph. When I hit the gas, gray(maybe
black, it was dark and night time) smoke came out the exhaust.
Guessing oil? Warn ring?
I'll have another look see tomorrow after work.
Thanks for listening,
Paul
