At the risk of being incredibly old, I still rate the sound of my old 
flathead 49 Meteor (Canadian Ford), with the Mercury truck engine (3/4 cam), 
planed heads & high-speed rear-end.... and straight pipes, as number 1.

P.S.
Moving the shifter to the left of the steering column ("speed shift", or 
"lover's shift) helped.
Chrome dash and under-floor beer container helped too!
I installed seat belts and built a Heathkit tach.

My second car was an early 52 Jaguar Mk7 manual transmission (80 mph in 3rd 
without hitting the red line).

Anyone else this old?
