At some point in my life, I was the only one with a home, so all my
wayward friend's left all their stuff with me at different times. I
ended up giving away about 500 albums(along with my old Pioneer and
another nicer turntable that I can't recall the name, both with spare
needles) to a friend of mine about 10 years ago. She recently called
me to say that she found my brother's college diploma in the album
stash, and was going to sell the whole pile. I wavered momentarily,
but realized that I've got a complete V8 dash taking up my spare bed,
and said "go for it". She promised not to sell the turntables.
Dave...I had a Macintosh amp when I had all those albums(with my Bose
901's(84? that are still above my head), and I wholeheartedly agree
about the "fullness" factor, which is why I'm currently "making, not
burning" a tape I haven't heard in years. Stuff that in that old
Bose system in the car, and it's pretty much perfect.....I spent
months of my life when I got my first "PC" hooking up my tape deck/
turntable and editing out noise/etc....I don't have a PC anymore, but
if anyone needs Cool Edit 5.0 let me know. .Now, I'm taking some of
those files, and reinstalling them on tape so to enjoy them in the
Lago car.....Love it. And instead of someone having to flip the
tape at the crucial moment, I can select where to end on the
computer, and pick up where I left off. The bane of any bootleg
taper was "who's gonna be there to flip the tape dude?" While I
don't currently own a guitar amplifier, I never owned one that didn't
have tubes, and "good tubes" made it all that much better. Analog
with tape hiss/hum removed really does kick MP3's ass.....Tom
