Hey Chris, glad the car is finally running fantastic. Your car as I
recall is pretty low miles, so you can either just change the fluid,
or do the complete service and change that 20 yo filter inside the
pan. Whole system holds around 10 qt/pan only holds 4. You can just
drain the pan/add 4 quarts of fluid(Dexron was the initial, so
anything similar/compatible would be fine). If you do the drain/fill
3 times, you've refreshed the system's oil. Or you can drain the pan/
pull the cooler lines at the radiator/put them in a bucket(with some
kind of cover as it will splash out) and run the car till your
assistant tells you it stopped pumping....now you've got all the oil
out. Take the exhaust out of the way, and the tranny linkage, and
that heat deflector plate, and drop the pan and change the filter and
clean out that pan that's full of metal and goo. Fill with 9.5
quarts of Mobil 1/Amsoil/whatever synthetic ATF you wish. When you
see what's in that pan, you'll be so glad you did that...I did the
filter in the Lago car around 75K years ago, and while I'm only up to
109K, the fluid is crystal clear. I'd change the oil at least every
50K....Good luck...Tom
