... cruise could be one of several causes ... for all my cars other than the
V8Q it seemed to always be vacuum related in some way, on my V8 it was the
100 gauge wire used on the steering column stalk.
>From your description I would not say that you have a vacuum leak in the
door locks ... they use vacuum and pressure (back in the urq days they
called it a "bi-pressure" pump). Most every V8Q has had problems with the
mechanism which interfaces with the switch that locks and unlocks the doors;
it can be difficult to keep everything lined up as you are reassembling the
door handle. Based on your description I would suspect that the switch is
not aligned properly and when you use the key to lock the door it touches
the unlock position as it returns to the center position. You will need to
disassemble the door lock and realign the ring that drives the switch.
The driver's door may be the common broken pot metal drive ring ... if that
is the case I don't know if you can still get the improved stamped part. It
might also be broken wires in the driver's door hinge. It would probably be
best to check the wiring loom first, and then take apart the door.

Hello to all... I used to be a regular on the urq list years ago...but after
a long break from Audi's...I'm back with a 90 V8Q. It is titan grey with
grey interior, and has 137k on it.Everything works but the cruise and the
doors only lock from the passengers side, then the locks loose vacuum and go
up into the unlocked position. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago from
pittsburgh, for a steal, and have a list of things that need to be done to
it,(past what I mentioned above). This is going to my dd and I drive about
3k a month so everything should be in good running order. I am going to
bring it back to life over the next few months and am happy to be back in
the brand that I love.
TIA
