The other thing I was thinking is this. If the drivers door lock is not
going down when you lock the passenger door (easy enough to watch) then you
have bad linkage in teh drivers door, and after returning the key to
centered, it gets the unlock signal from the drivers door contact (since
it's up).
Also common in the front doors are the plastic clips that hold the linkage
to either end, the door handle and the latch. I've seen several of these
break.
