Well my engine has been delivered to my mechanic and starting tomorrow AM he will begin to take the old motor out and put this used one in. The guy is a pretty good Audi mechanic and i was wondering i know a lot of you guys have done jobs like this so, what should i expect to pay for something like this? My guy is charging about 95.00 per hour. (connecticut sux) I was hoping maybe 12 to 15 hours plus parts, but i really have no idea.

I am very excited to begin driving this 1990 v8.
Is there anything besides the obvious timing belt and water pump job that you guys recommend to do at this juncture? I am on a limited budget but i will take into consideration the important stuff. was thinking tranny fluid/ gear oil and thermostat probably is pretty inexpensive and will be east to do during this procedure. The car has 90,000 miles on it and i am the second owner. I appears to have been taken very good care of, however i cant prove or disprove that because i don't have any service records. I was wondering if i could contact the local Audi dealer in the city that the car was registered and see if they have the service records. Has anyone ever tried that type of thing. Also what about the steering rack? does the rack go bad on 90v8's like it does on my 87 quattro and begin to leak all over? Or have they corrected that by 1990.
Once again i am glad to be a part of this list and the info you guys have is priceless.
  thanks

  Chris
