Chris,
Your chances of finding a low mileage motor are about zero I would guess,
and a used one is going to need valve guides. They all do. I think you
have enough good parts to build a good motor - just have your best two
heads rebuilt.
btw, did you install the "new" motor? I thought you only gave it a
leakdown test or something like that. I know mine looked pretty terrible
by that measure but it still ran pretty good. It burned oil - but again
that is common for any 3.6L. The valve job was not all that bad ($$ wise)
since the parts are interchangable with the VW 16v motor from the era - so
guides, seals, etc are available. The head bolts and gasket kit is
expensive but all in all money better spent since you get a nice fresh
motor.
