As you may recall (or maybe not) I've been having some problems with fossilized ethanol in the fuel 
system of my V8Q. I'll have to pull the tank, which means pulling the exhaust which means pulling 
the rear suspension etc. etc. etc, and on a 22 year old car this ISN'T going to be fun. Not even a 
little.

And when I'm all done, I'll be back at 16 mpg on $4.50 a gallon gas.

What about an LPG gas conversion? Remove ALL the gasoline stuff (all 86 tons of it), convert to run 
on LPG only . . .

Advantages - cheap conversion kit, about $600, cheap fuel cost ($1.50/gallon?), get rid of a bunch 
of finicky, expensive, old, tired Bosch stuff, tell the gasoline companies to go get stuffed, and 
get to drive my V8Q again.

If I have to change the ECU, I have a Megasquirt (Yes I know it is considerably less sophisticated 
than the Bosch ECU, but it is also programmable, which may be required because the Bosch unit is 
NOT, and the MS ECU is also considerably less finicky.)


Disadvantages - have to do the work, but I have indoor space and I have to do a lot of it anyway, 
limited fuel availability (not really, just need to look around), allegedly limited range, no 
problem, if I need to go anywhere distant, I'll fly anyway.


Cost might be about a grand, break-even looks like less than 5,000 miles. Hmmm.


I'm in the seriously thinking about it phase - the car is stuck, so I have nothing to lose (it isn't 
a daily driver), restoring the ethanol-polluted system will be a major PITA, and I really don't see 
too many down-sides to an LPG conversion other than being the first penguin through the ice looking 
for killer whales.


Your thoughts are definitely solicited! Any BTDT or even BCGU (been close gave up)?
