Hey Chris, VROOOOOOOOM.... Sorry had to do that. Good for your
mechanic for doing the mounts/pp and both knock sensors/belt job.
Many of the people reading this, including me, need motor mounts.
While my Lago car(low miles-3.6) doesn't eat any oil, every other V8
I"ve had/seen does/did. The 4.2 I had blew smoke when you got on it,
but ate less oil than my 5-speed currently does...I believe the
theory was that the G-forces that you experienced pushed the oil to
that rear breather hose(which might have been placed somewhere
better) and it get's sucked in. Someone at some point put a screen
in that rear breather hose, and noticed less oil use as I recall, but
if you look at it as refreshing your oil by just adding.....?

1 year old gas is nothing compared to 5-10yo gas(both parts cars, and
1 boat) and I wouldn't even worry about 1 yo gas. I'm a believer in
Techron(as it's easy to buy and my friend who was a chemist for
Chevron said it's more than just kerosene/jet A like many of the
"cleaners".) 1 wine bottle of Toluene in 16 gallons of 92 makes 100
if I"m not mistaken. I saw 100 leaded recently in the desert and
it's been awhile I've seen that aside from an airport. My ex's dad
has been in the oil business since the 50's and he only buy's Chevron
(cause of they're additive package) and while I don't adhere to that
religiously, I'll pay a few cents more if its right there and have
done so since the early 80's. Gasoline is gasoline, but the additive
package is what make's Chevron/Shell/BP different from the cheap guy
in town with no additive. Further, I'd like to promote Ethanol free
gas if you want to store your vehicle/daily use. Ethanol while a
good idea, is hydroscopic(magnet for water), and I was recently
surprised in the desert east of San Diego that E85 was at the pump at
Arco!. I considered putting it into the rental Mazda 2, but being in
the desert, that sounded like a bad idea. No way around it...if you
live in a wet/coastal area, ethanol is just plain wrong in any way,
and you should avoid it. Bottom line Chris is that you need to take
a road trip......Sincerely, Tom
