[V8] 1993 5 spd

Already brokered that S8 when it popped up, just using that price as a reference to those thinking v8 5spds as 'highly' desireable actually adding market value. A couple thousand into an S8 (<10k), would get you a running high mileage S8 with TB, trans fluid service, brakes, Nav conversion and 80k more on warranty. There's one in Orlando I got pics of less than a week ago. 01/02 S8 at <10k are quite common and readily available.

There is a difference between what a car is 'worth' and what it will sell for. A 4.2 v8 5speed with a 3.6 ecu/wiring I don't think adds any value to the v8 5speed buyer. At best it may get a 5speed buyer to choose the 4.2 conversion over the 3.6 stocker engine. The reality to the v8 market is 80+% of them are between $2-3k max. As a rule, I immediately deduct 600 if it needs a timing belt service, which it appears the one posted does.... Faded paint with blue interior starts equalizing market value quickly.

Cheers

thats a great price for a S8 , even if you put a couple of thousand into it. I still have my A8 97 and love the car, it has not many problems in the last two years that I've owned it. I think having a 4.2 is a better more reliable engine and yes maybe a little bit of an ego thing. But an S8 I'd go for it.

All optimism aside (this *is* the v8 list), a standard low mile 3.6 is in the low-mid 3k range. The question is, does adding the 4.2 engine increase it's market value, or just the ego factor of the driver (my claim). When you start looking north of 4k, there are a lot of newer quattros that price is bumping into. To that end, I'd say $4k is probably the very top, deduct ~600 for timing belt on age not miles. If that price is a shocker, probably better to keep it, put a timing belt on it, and drive it more. Given the predictions on gas prices, whatever you do, consider doing it soon, or the decision will become much easier for prospective buyers.
