[Ricky: I don’t believe there is any such thing as a TRULY “mint” V8
at this point of time. There are very nice ones, of which probably
mine is one, but a TRULY MINT V8 would have to be in the hands of the
original owner, with documentation to that fact, and EVERY work order
ever issued on the car, so that it could be ascertained that it was
perfectly maintained over the years.]
Well Roger, the idea of "what's it worth" has been on my mind
regarding my Panther Black car. I just moved it yesterday to my
house after it sitting at a friend's for 6 months to get it in order
to sell it. The previous owners(elderly) bought the car in '94 from
the dealer in town with 20K or so, and it was serviced there till
about 6 years ago, when they told them they simply couldn't work on
the car anymore as the tech's are all too young and it's just too
old. The odometer say's 109K, but it's got more like 198K as the
cluster was replaced with the timing belt recently along with the
heater core and fan. He told me that many of those miles were
driving long distance from here to Nova Scotia(for work), and it
doesn't smoke/burn oil. It's got G60's so I was planning on swapping
both towers from the parts car(also G60 with/new brakes/new climate
control head and thinking I'd list it for $2000. I pulled the entire
black interior from the parts car (125K) and had visions of replacing
the whole interior(grey and a bit tired), but doubt I'll get around
to that as it's probably time I won't get paid for.
Now my Lago car which I've got every piece of paper since it entered
the country, and has 109K and a fresh complete belt job/10K on new
UFO's/complete front end/rebuilt pump and hoses and just needs the
lower bumpers painted and runs smoother than any V8 I've ever
driven.....What's that worth? Work's been slow so I've painfully
considered getting rid of that also(probably never will), but
compared to a newer Honda with more miles....I'd hope it's worth
$4000, but I couldn't sell it/any of them to someone who had no idea
what they were buying, because the uninitiated would think $4K is a
steal for a clean $50K "when new" car. I'll probably keep it and
drive it just enough to keep it happy and hope that someday, it's the
desireable old car worth $$ like a '68 Nova SS is to some of us baby
boomers..... to the Gen X crowd when they are older.
I still think $4500 for that '93 sounds fair if you look at the time/
money/love that went into that conversion.....Tom
