[V8] A/C Dash Vents

I have completed the retrofit of my R-12 system to R-134A using suggestions and BTDT from the list.   So far, it is working well.  My only question is I am not getting a great deal of airflow out of the dash vents.  Plenty from floor and defroster.  I would appreciate suggestions as to where to look for the mechanism that opens the dash vents and what might cause this.  I would be happy to just open it for the trip to the west coast, if that is possible.  I have not yet replaced the glove box so hope it may be there somewhere.
