A cell phone was a (very expensive, around $8,000!) option on the V8 in
some European countries. But I have to disappoint you - the factory
phones that were available were analog C-450 ("C-Netz",
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C-Netz) models from Siemens, SEL or AEG. I
have one of the last V8s and mine has a Nokia 6080/NME-2 GSM phone that
is integrated into the armrest - but it was dealer-installed and not a
factory option. It has ugly green backlighting, too.
GSM phones were never available as factory options on the V8.
You would not be able to use any of the early GSM phones with a US
provider as well, for two reasons: These dinosaurs need 5V SIM cards,
which were never available in the US. And the GSM network in the US
works on 1900 MHz (GSM-1900), whereas old European phones only know
GSM-900. The only phone that would probably work in the V8 is the Nokia
810, which was the last dedicated car-phone model offered by them - I
think it was discontinued in 2003. While it supports GSM-1900 it doesn't
look contemporary and features an external display that cannot be
integrated into the armrest.
