[V8] Sometimes wish we had fewer wet blankets

With all due respect, maybe we all need some reality checks now and again. When you last posted the same 'warning' of this impending crush, I forwarded the email to a buddy in Texas looking for a track duty classic. AFTER I did so, I was lead counsel to that buyer, and saw every pic and email of the exchange with the owner of the car you reference. The bottom line, months ago this was a track rat candidate, that a buyer in Texas couldn't justify the total dollars just to get home. So, there is no 'wet blanket', I present a very well informed email to the exact car you speak to. Additionally, I do this for a living, and have for over 20 years. My forte is older Audis, and I own quite a few, including 2 v8's and a 200tq. I can also tell you that my 92 v8 4.2 with ABT chip could not take my chipped 200 or my chipped S6. And I thoroughly enjoy driving my v8.

So, here I stand on my post as written... And I just don't have the same unconditional love for all projects that are possibly losers to the potential buyer, OR to the potential seller. Let the guy post it on Audifans Markietplace and let it sell for what it is. Your last heads up didn't get a track rat buyer to justify it, so I'm pretty sure my post reflected the proper realistic perspective.

I have nothing against Audis, nor their enthusiasts, because I am one. But you must remember too, I have driven them all including converted 5spd 4.2s, compare them daily in my driveway, and can't pretend that I agree with your previous assessments regarding this 'pre-sale', nor your 200tq eval below. I appreciate your opinions and enjoy your enthusiasm to the marque and the chassis. I will however, continue to put my honest assessments of comparisons and opinions in arenas I'm intimately familiar. My 'wet blanket' post stands as written, FWIW.

Cheers and my .02

I struggled with whether or not to post this, especially from my phone ...

It seems so odd to see people on this forum who consider it worthwhile to take
an AT V8Q and swap in a MT, and yet when there's the real deal available for a
song we immediately see posts verbosely describing why it is a waste of time.

The other recent observation is that on the marketplace it is possible to pick
up what appears to be a well-kept 5-speed for less than one-quarter of what
someone else is asking for a fixed up 200Q/20V. I have BTDT (almost hate to use
the term) when I drove my stock V8 and two different 200Q/20Vs, at least one of
them mod'ed, and didn't feel either of them would beat my car in acceleration or
off the line grunt.

For some reason the V8 never got the cult following of the 200, and if the V8
list can't be enthusiastic, I guess it never will.
