I guess considering that the dealer wanted $300+ for the hoses $500 was a fair estimate. In case anyone is wondering one hose is obsolete but there may be two in Texas, one hose is on back order and would have to have come from Germany. The one which really got me is a straight hose about three inches long, price $58! I did not get new factory hoses but was able to get some heater hose and replace to offending parts, not a bad job at all. I also noticed when I was in there that the crossover breather pipe above the intake manifold was toast so I put in a new piece of hose. Job done or so I thought but now the car will start and idle for ~ a minute then die. It is no problem to keep it running with the right foot. Could this be because I plugged a giant vacuum leak? I have not had time to investigate, will probably start by cleaning the ICV any other suggestions of something I could have nudged will in there? Also I called Bently to get a new
authorization for my computer and they informed me I have used all my authorizations and could not get a new one. Since I am not real interested in paying for this manual a second time is there anywhere else it can be had? This car has not had a timing belt in 83,000 miles according to the records so it needs to be done before I would really drive the car especially as I can hear all the rollers making noise. So one vote for Blau ,one which says Blau is crap, the V8 is getting very long in the tooth and I suspect I will just have to take what I can get. Thanks for the link to the wiki, this was not the write up I was thinking of but it appears to have all the parts listed and some good procedure. I am sure it will not be as much fun as changing the timing chains on my buddies XK8 but probably close. It appears the one critical tool from the writeup is a crank lock tool does anyone have a picture, description of this tool and/or instruction on its
construction? I have been away from the V8 for about 3-4 years now happily driving a UrS4 and just forgot about all the idiosyncrasies boy did it all come rushing back when I popped the air cleaner cover off starting with oh yeah it is just easier to remove the crossbar to get those three back screws!
Thanks, George
