Hey Roger, well once again, I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a few
of those $25 refurbished head units a few yrs back when they dumped
them. My Lago car has all rebuilt amps and sounds great, but I'll be
in the same boat if my head unit craps out. A good electronics guy
with a schematic should be able to fix yours.
That said, I've got an Alpine in the 5-speed which I love. My Ipod
lives in the glovebox since I can select thru the headunit and
there's enough music/books on tape to drive to your house and back a
half dozen times. If you go this route, verify the unit you are
looking at will charge your Ipod/whatever when plugged in. I pulled
the amps out of the front boxs and had to make up a plywood filler
since the Bose hole is 4-1/2", and my new Alpine speakers were 4".
The rears, I removed the whole speaker, but kept the stock Bose
grill. It's got XM which I don't subscribe to, but if I lived in the
boonies and drove alot, probably would. The rebuilt Bose system has
way more "presence", but I do love the Alpine and it also sounds
great. Think the Alpine I've got with front/rear speakers would be
around $200-$250........What would Adriana do?........Tom
