Ouch!

That flywheel is toast. I wonder if you can replace the ring gear?
As far as I know, flywheels are no longer available so hanging on to your old one may be smart. There may be a chance it is repairable. The paint should be easy to fix. Since it is all on the trunk lid that makes it even easier.

About a year or so ago, one of them bubbled to about the size of a quarter. I went to the dealer, and got the paint kit and while it didn't match that great, it looked sealed. As soon as our weather got cold and rainy this fall, the entire trunk just let go....

After his starter died/had running issues, he offered to buy my Black car with his Indigo as partial trade. Win/Win. I threw a starter in and it still made a horrible noise. I looked at the old starter, and the bendix wouldn't retract after engaging, and just flopped free, and further, would only extend about 1/2 way(broken plastic pieces inside). When I removed the newer starter, I found a total of 11 missing teeth, with the bad spot having 7. While I have a spare flywheel, and the car is clean and shiny with a fresh TB, pretty well convinced myself to part it, but am still on the fence. If I don't part it, it's going to have a pretty ugly trunk....Tom
