[V8] drivers seat heater

I use to be the go to guy when it came to heated seats for 5000 CS :-)

First try this to see if the relays are working.

There should be two relays for the front seat. >turn the ignition on and turn , radio, fans etc off (needs to be quiet) Turn the good seat heater to 0 ... now listen carefully when you move the switch to 1,2,3 ... you should of heard a small click sound. That tells you that the relay is working. Now try the seat that isn't working ... do you get a click? if not replace relay with known good one.

There are two heating mats one for the backside and one for your back in the seat. The backside one is the one that I would look at as if it has failed the whole seat doesn't work. If you are adventurous, take the seat out of the car and peel back the leather (I've done this only on a cloth seat), underneath you will find a nice 1/8th inch thick piece white felt. This felt is held into position by three or four horizontal steel rods that have small metal clips that need to be undone // Inside the white mat material is a small Aluminum wire that runs back and forth in the middle of this cloth … that is where the warmth comes from. You will have to leave the White felt piece on the seat, as it can be a bit of a struggle to get the thing out. The heating element is a simple circuit; get a audible test meter so that you can test for continuity. The area you will find the start and finish of the heating grid is at the back, middle of the backside heating pad. To find the break in the wire , first look at the white mat, do you see any burn marks? A burn mark usually indicates where the break has happened. All I use to do is solder the broken wires back together. Make sure to use as little solder as possible. Cheers superdave> From: dsaad at icehouse.net
