I was thinking vacuum leak when I read about stumbling. That is compatible
with toasted vacuum hoses.

>From Aug. of '99, an excerpt from a post I made to the V8Q list when Eliot
was still hosting it in WA:
"Only other place the V8Q exhibited "normal" problems was in the Mts of West
Virginia (on our way to D.C.) After a very spirited run through the
mountains (hey, they do have those emergency truck catchers just in case, or
so I tried to convince my passengers) when we stopped at a rest area, smoke
was billowing from under the hood. Burning oil smell, coming from under the
air cleaner...yup, those crossover hoses were probably disintegrated again,
I changed them about 3 years ago, their useful life it seems. My lack of
concern and Gibraltar steady diagnosis instilled a new confidence in my
passengers, who could later be observed in the rear
view mirror assisting me on the curves by leaning into them. Back home
after 7 days, 2960 miles, 14 States and 1 Province. "
BCNU,
Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.
