[V8] Audi faith shaken? Need to vent!

I took my SO's 2002 Ford Taurus in to get inspected last year. 
Mechanic: "It needs a muffler." 
Me: "How much is that going to be?"
Mechanic: "$250"
Me: "And how much for labor?"
Mechanic: "That's for both the part and the labor to install it, and the inspection sticker."

I was surprised. I'm too used to Audi prices. Any time I had my <insert Audi model here> in for work, it was at least $750 for a cheap repair, and $1500+ when it was a bigger repair.

I vowed not to spend another dime fixing an Audi. So instead, I bought an '02 VW Beetle, TDI. I've got over 6000 miles on it and have filled it with diesel 10 times and changed the oil once. Knock on wood.
