[V8] interested in increasing fuel economy?

Bingo. And I'd bet any controller only makes mileage worse. Mileage goals were not lost on the flagship v8 design back in the day. Underbelly trays front and rear, small lightweight wheels, lightweight tires (michelin OE tires some of the lightest for their size), lightweight (UFO) brakes were all part and partial to the v8 optimal mileage routine (reciprocating mass). The trans controller in 'E' mode was designed to not be 'Sport' mode by definition. And considering the FMSS EPA test procedures, I doubt any aftermarket design controller will prove better than the stock shift control.
Scott D is right: If you have to focus on the mileage of a v8, you are driving the wrong car. Paul is right, increase the thermal, fluid and mechanical efficiencies will do more than throwing money at a black box that will more than likely prove the exact opposite in the 'mileage increase' theory, in practice.
I would add, make sure you leave the belly pan on, keep the engine in proper tune with proper spark plugs and a new'er 02 sensor, the direct benefits to mileage becomes as real as the right foot you are using to modify any baseline.

quackery of the first order. shifting down earlier increases fuel
consumption & does not reduce it. Also you can't just shutdown injectors in
indirect engines not designed to do so. makes no sense to consider this.
you can reduce fuel consumption easily through physical means:
Purge the car of junk (reduce weight)
Lube the brake pins & pads so there is no drag
Low rolling resistance tires - ive done this and they do make a difference
Low engine oil viscosity - 5W15 or a 0WXX. I did this to reduce the head
port oil leak and it was great.
We block off a section of the rad in the winter - more heat and improved
aerodynamics
The kids averaged 12.5L/100km over the past year in rural mixed driving,
best I've seen from Verboten (now forgotten but not gone!)

I think he wants aound 300 for the unit, but in Canada that return comes
fast. Mind you, the return comes fast for anyone who drives a lot. Id rather
it be out there and become a viable option then tell people not to consider
anything. Its for those who might want it so all the power to them right?
And yeah, at the moment I'm at 50 psi. It feels great but for the crap roads
I seem to drive on a lot....
