[V8] interested in increasing fuel economy?

i don't get it.  why not buy a more economical car if one wants better MPGs?
i did.  i hated it.  sold it and went back to driving the cars i love to
drive.  

the most MPG smiles per a gallon car i ever owned was an e28 528e.  i got an
honest 38 MPGs on the highway and averaged around 30 with mixed driving.
car was not a screamer but it was a hoot to drive.  i would not mind owning
one again.
