After letting the V8 sit a bit this summer while enjoying the cabriolet, it's time to get this thing back on the road and ready for winter.
Installed a new fuel pump. Although, I can't tell if I've seated the pump in the basket properly. I was trying to feel for a 'click' but never got there. May try again. New fuel filter going in tonight. Ordered a new fuel sending unit on the assumption that it was the cause of a misbehaving fuel gauge, but the new one is not an exact match. I think I will see if I can get a different one, but in the meantime will re-install the old one just to get it going.
Replacing the VC gaskets and the seals around the distributors. One green one on each dist, and a flat blue one under the part that the distr bolts to. BTW, what's that part called? Beside some of the bolts/screws being a bit hard to reach, really had trouble putting the dist back in and making sure the tab on the shaft was aligned with the slot. For starters, I was slow in recognizing that the tab was not down the center line of the shaft but was offset a bit. Make sense as it denotes a top and bottom. Also the new green seal makes for a tight fit. Valve covers need proper torquing. Anyone know that number?
Also replaced a flat blue seal under a cover next to the passenger side cam. When I removed the cover, there were two seal in there on top of each other. There should be only one, correct? Looking at my parts, I still have one green seal left over. If looks like the ones that go on the distr shafts, but smaller. Where does that go?
Also installing new distributor caps, rotors, and plugs. Hopefully, all of this should result in a running car.
Next up, timing belt.
Kevin
