This is nothing new, the fact that v8 are worth more as parts than drivers. As the sole dissenter for many years on this list to that idea, I did the math on this list several times over the last 4 years. I will take all that heat of denial, until I read many of those applying the heat be the ones coming to the reality... At the end of the day, the v8 has a really tough time being an enthusiast car, because it never got the treatment it did in the home market. I suspect the 6 speed 4.2 cars will continue to be collectors, but even the 5speed cars in the US, can't get enough interest from the enthusiast market, because the numbers are just that hard to balance.
As one intimately familiar with the ABT 5k, I find it just another example of a US market tank for older Audis. Justifying half the market value, then selling again at half the market value, is a fine example that any Audi sold that 'needs work', has a tough and frugal crowd in the enthusiast market. "Mess" then, is defined as the person that denies that investments in non-runners and fixer-uppers is foolish. I apparently, am no exception to the addictions to such follies.
I encourage those more experienced in the group, to guide those not so. I staked my claim years ago, buying a v8 just to rescue a v8, is beyond fool-hardy. No news here.
