[V8] Timed rear demister vs non-timed

Verify on the relay(s) location - for some reason I many wrote years ago on my 1990 V8Q factory schematic there is a defrost relay in the right foot well. If someone could remind me how to get the defrost switch out without disassembling the dash or console or pulling the radio I would do so and see if pins 5 and 6 are wired per schematic. Maybe I pulled the radio when troubleshooting before.
My switch/timer is defective and I would connect defrost switch plug pin 6 to 12V and see what happens (click in the right footwell?). Maybe the answer to the riddle is switch contact pin 6 goes to another relay (from factory modification added and not on schematic) to pass heavier wire or a separate wire for the defrost element from the heated mirror pairs.

Looking at the schematic for the V8 the switch appears to contain all of the circuitry to create the timer. There is no external module in a fuse box for this function. I would imagine the 1990 100 would be similar to it's V8Q sibling. I'd say that the risk would be low that there would be a problem. It should be pretty much plug and play. The more I consider it the more it seems to me it has to be ... if the timer is internal there would be no need for any additional external connections. Good luck!
... and Merry Christmas to all the members of the V8Q list! Or rather, should I say Frohe Weihnachten!

On the 1992 Audi V8 I owned a few years back the rear demister (heated rear
windscreen) was timed - it turned itself off after 10-15 minutes.

At the moment I own a 1990 Audi 100 TQ Sport Exklusiv, and that car doesn't have this feature.

When I look in ETKA, I see that there are several different switches for the rear demister.

Can I just replace my non-timed demister switch for a timed one, or will something fry? :p
