[V8] Clutch Overcenter Spring

Thanks Tom,

If your clutch mechanicals are in good shape you don't "need" an overcenter
spring at all, it pushes the pedal fully against the stop.

If your clutch is stiff it has little to nothing to do with the overcenter
spring; in fact there's a point in the stroke where the spring is actually
pushing in the same direction as you are. In fact, I've felt that the
overcenter spring tends to accentuate the pedal remaining down when there
isn't sufficient fluid in the system or there's a leaking master or slave.

I've been driving the car when I must on occasion, and to be honest it is
almost impossible to tell the spring is not there. The pedal sits maybe
1/4" away from the stop. That said, I still tend to lift the pedal to the
stop with my left foot to ensure the throw out bearing & clutch plate are
not getting abused ...

Steve

As to the bandwidth ... I still have not gotten into the forum paradigm; as
I've stated before, I just don't find the time to deliberately go somewhere
to filter through a bunch of forums without much I'd consider worthwhile ...
but I did just join a couple SF Bay Area Facebook VW/Audi groups ... mostly
to see if I could find someone interested in the parts I post on the
Marketplace here and get no response to. So far signal to noise there is
pretty close to zero as well.

$52, Steve, you're cheaper than me.....Personally, since I've already heard
that the 200 spring was lighter and it's $52 for something that will be like
it was....I"m leaning on getting that spring. Everyone who's driven my
5-speed says "That's a firm clutch". I know the spring is just for return,
but if the gods thought it should be beefy, then I'm in. Last time I
looked, I'm pretty sure it's been replaced when the master got done, as
everything looks clean/nice/ newer up there. I've been looking @ everything
that's gonna be NLA eventually, and been buying up small bits here/there.
Wish that the VW/Audi closeout site had an email alert for things we all
need.....maybe someone's figured that out?.......I just felt like posting
something so this list isn't as slow as the rest of the older lists on
here...Ha. Hope all's well with everyone. Hoping to completely dismantle
the entire suspension on the 5-speed this summer/ sooner and do what I've
been meaning to do since I got it....Been parked for a bunch of stuff, and
can't wait to get back to driving it.......Hope all's well, Tom
