That is correct. Put a small piece of masking tape on the outside of the windshield where the mirror was glued. Then with a single edge blade scrape the old glue off. Clean with some rubbing alcohol.  The follow directions on the mirror adhesive.  Just glue the mirror braket button on not the whole mirror. The outside temp will affect the dry time.

I believe it needs to be a glass-friendly epoxy. Auto Zone or your FLAPS should have a rear view mirror adhesive kit.
