For the last 6 or so months, my wife and I have been carpooling in one of
our other vehicles, and so the V8 got neglected for a while, just sitting
there. And like many others on this list, the internal dialogue began of
should I keep it, or is it time to let it go came into my head from time to
time.
Then two weeks ago, I saw I was going to need the 2nd car again soon, and
so I went to start it up from it's slumber. Cranking was a bit week, it
seemed to stumble some but never quite caught and ran. Thinking it was
just low from sitting, I tried jumping it, and it still struggled. Of
course my head started running through all the possible issues, stagnant
fuel, sensor issues, who knows what else it could be. So I left it for a
couple days, frustrated.
Then it occurred to me, I should just pull the battery, hook it up to a
charger and get it fully topped off before I try again. So I did so, and
after letting it charge for more than enough time, checked it with the
handy V/O Meter, 10.3V. Looked at the cover of the battery, 7 yrs old.
Ran into town, picked up a replacement, put it in and tried to start it
again. I swear it didn't even get a full rotation and vroom, purring like
a kitten. No odd noises, no strange smells, all the gauges reporting all
is fine. Took it for a drive, and have probably put 100 miles or so on it
since then, and all those thoughts of letting it go evaporated. There's no
need to let this car go, it's still got plenty of good life in it yet.
But then the gods giggled at me. Not sure if it was from sitting for so
long (outside) or what, but one of the rear brake pads crumbled on me, and
now it's running metal on metal, with all that horrible noise that comes
with it.
Now that I've got the itch to drive it again, I really shouldn't on that
pad, and the rotor's surface has already taken some damage (my drive home
is about 22 miles of stop and go, up and down hills.) So today I start
looking around for rotors for the rear, and it seems a bit difficult to
find one on a reasonably quick turnaround, I've seen 3-5 weeks, and one
supplier (through amazon) even listed 3 months.
Any suggestions for a seller that has a stock replacement rear rotor
actually in stock?
