Hey Roger, because of your commute, I'll assume you've burned out all that old gas by now. I'd blink out the fault codes first before doing anything else, so you start out on the right foot. If you don't have the LED blinker, can mail you one since even though Radio Shack liquidated many stores, we've still got 2. Hate to see you/especially your "wrench" spend time chasing a demon that actually turned out to be your OX sensor/whatnot that some mouse chewed thru wire and is giving you 2341/whatnot. I've got 1 in each glovebox just in case($5?), and a printed list of codes since if on roadtrip, gonna find no help at a truck stop. I got lucky as after 3 yrs with no battery, 5-speed had no codes. After it ran, found that IAC code and it was a simple fix that i'd have spent a bunch of time on before thinking about that. I just assumed it was old gas. It'll tell you(ideally) if anything's wrong in the Motronic system, but it's also not a holy grail, and have seen an OX sensor fix a no code running issue. Can't hurt to check especially now that you've driven it.

I recall your car has low miles(possibly the lowest as Lago just hit 116K), so if the filter is old(if you haven't done it since owning it and not sure if it's been done), then I'd replace that because it's time. and you might have sucked up some goo from it sitting. 2 of the parts cars had a bunch(handfulls) of black material floating around in tank which all ended up in the sump where that pump sits. Would have taken a pic, but was terrified of the flash killing me/burning down my friend's shop. Can't imagine either of those being happy at full throttle/sloshing around. Black car that got sold to friends son(that will soon be up for sale) had a bunch also, and used the vacuum pump with a larger hose on mason jar/wipes to get most of it in place. Don't use a shopvac, or I'll send you the video of some idiot vacuuming his boat tank(didn't end well). The screen in both was totally plugged, and while they ran before parting, didn't run well....Ha. Might have your "wrench" open cover and peek in and see what's in there(on a low tank of course) just to see. It's uncomfortable, but a piece of wood/hammer/headlamp/respirator will turn that cover off to get access(no sparks please).
Beauty is that because of the low miles, it's something simple most likely, and will run perfectly here shortly. Low miles says the car has sat most of 25yrs.....something to consider in your diagnosis......Tom
