The way the book describes to test the speedo sensor(G22) is to put voltmeter on black 26pin connector(on back of IC) and roll car back and forth and see if it generates voltage.  Since that would require removal of cluster, I'd have someone lined up who's good with circuit boards and have them resolder all those connector pins/check for cracks etc.  Since both my cars have flakey boards(including Lago that had it's replaced @ 45K in '97), as did all of the parts cars and pretty much every V8 known to man, my money is still on the board.  Might get lucky and the connector at tranny is just corroded.
