If your distributor caps still have the black covers on them, take them off! They cause problems exactly like this. You will see the arc marks on the cap after you remove the black conductive covers. They are supposedly there to prevent radio interference but I don't think they work for that either. If this is your problem, you probably need new caps but try putting die-electric grease over the burned area after scraping it clean. I drove mine like that for a long time. In fact it went to Audi heaven that way!
And, I bought Kingsbourne wires, (www.kingsborne.com <http://www.kingsborne.com/>) and liked them a lot. They had thicker insulation though so a little hard to fit into the wire channels.
