If the stutter is indeed the clutch packs, then you already have the answer. Mr "C" has a fresh tranny already packaged up in a classy rolling box....you just need to take your truck to Boston(close) and get it on a car trailer. Not only that but you hopefully also get some useable lines and that nagging AC compressor out of deal/maybe brakes etc....win/win for both. I honestly can't imagine owning a V8 without a parts car, and now's your perfect chance. It's a no brainer if you're mechanic is sure it's the tranny.
The 3 cars that I parted were because of slipping clutch packs. All slipped under load smoothly without what I'd call a stutter. All benefited from flush/new tranny filter, with the grey car going from "can't drive it up tilt trailer", to almost fixed, but still slipped only when kickdown occurred. No/reduced fluid flow and you have problems and all the filters were clogged. In the end they all got scrapped as I had no interest in swapping tranny's, just to be left with a $3000 car to sell. Broken engine/tranny mounts definatly can cause a "stutter" and we know how rare that is. 5-speed has more of a "rotational vibration" from that bad center support bearing.
You love your car and you and the rest of us know that. Time for a trip to the big city.....Good luck, Sincerely, Tom
